There a few types of earphones available and they can vary dramatically. We are therefore going to explain these in a bit more detail using images to show key differences.
Earphone “in ear”
Apple earphones are a good example of “in ear” ear phones. They sit within the ear but are not inserted into the canal fully.
Ear buds actually fit into the canal of the ear. The benefit of this type of ear phone is that it also cancels out outside noise to a degree.
Headphones are essentially two small speakers attached to a headband. This headband fits across the top or back of the user’s head and the speakers rest upon the ear and emit sounds from outside the ear. They can be broken up into two types, the over ear and on ear headphones.
